RCV CHANUKAH MESSAGE

Dear Friends,

As the flames of the menorah begin to shine this Chanukah, we are reminded that light has the power to drive away even the deepest darkness. This is not just a story of the past; it is our story today.

We are a strong and resilient people. Throughout history, we have faced challenges that seemed insurmountable, yet we endure, and we thrive. Even now, as our city has witnessed horrific acts of hatred, including the burning of a shul and vile rhetoric preached on the steps of Parliament, we remain steadfast. These acts are painful reminders of the darkness that still exists. But they also challenge us to respond as we always have—with unwavering faith, unity, and light.

The menorah, with its individual branches standing tall yet connected at the base, reminds us of the strength in our diversity and unity. Each of us has a unique role to play, yet we are all part of one people, one family, bound together by our shared history and destiny. This unity is our strength, and it is through this strength that we can illuminate even the darkest corners of the world.

This Chanukah, we take inspiration from the menorah’s light. Just as one small flame can ignite many others without diminishing its own strength, so too can each of us bring light and warmth to those around us. Together, as a community, we can dispel hatred and darkness with acts of kindness, love, and faith.

Let us pray together:

• For the safety and welfare of the holy chayalim who protect Am Yisrael with courage and selflessness.

• For the immediate release of all the hostages, so they may return to their families without delay.

• For an end to hatred and darkness in all its forms.

• For the ultimate peace and redemption with the coming of Moshiach.

May this Chanukah bring hope, strength, and miracles to you and your family, to our community, and to the entire world.

We invite you to join your local shul for a Chanukah event and be part of the light that unites us all.

With blessings and love,

Rabbi Moshe Kahn President, Rabbinical Council of Victoria
